At Sharnbrook Mill Theatre, we are deeply saddened to hear about the recent passing of Ian Lawson, on 6th June 2025.
He was known to most as Lovely Ian and was a loyal supporter over the years, both on and off the stage.
He appeared in many shows, including The Lion in Winter, Cabaret, My Fair Lady, The Threepenny Opera, Spend, Spend, Spend and Oklahoma!
He was known to many as an active volunteer, as he was our Front of House Manager, until 2016, guiding countless audience members to their seats and organising a team of helpers.
His volunteering eventually led to a paid role in customer service at Milton Keynes Theatre, where he was Deputy Customer Experience Manager.
He always had a smile on his face, and could not have been more welcoming and lovely – hence his nickname.
He forged many special friendships at The Mill, and his loss is still being felt through the theatre.
His funeral will take place on Tuesday 8th July, at 11.00am, at All Saints Church, Great Barford, MK44 3HW followed by a wake at Great Barford Village Hall.
The family have requested family flowers only, but donations can be made to the British Heart Foundation in his memory.
His family said: “We warmly welcome all who knew and loved him to join us in remembering and celebrating his life.”
RIP, Lovely Ian.
