Theo Gibbs: 1950-2023 – In memoriam

We were saddened recently to learn of the passing of Theo Gibbs, a long-standing and highly-valued member of Sharnbrook Mill Theatre.

Following Theo’s death on 28th November 2023, Doug Pope, our long-serving past Chairman had these words to say:

“In saying goodbye to Theo, we have lost someone who worked tirelessly for the Trust in very many ways. He had an encyclopaedic knowledge of the Mill and its surrounding terrain and was the first to be called when any question arose concerning the Mill structure or historical facts.

“Theo first trod the boards at the Mill in the early 1980’s, becoming a regular performer and quickly immersing himself in every aspect of Mill life. Along with his mother Elizabeth, he organised many annual Dog Shows on the island next to The Mill which contributed hundreds of pounds towards our Fundraising fund.

“He served diligently as a Trustee, a member of the Marketing and Fundraising team and Front of House manager for many years and was an important member of the Monday Morning Team, attending to repair and renovation tasks. Individually, he spent many hours tending to the grounds around the Mill and quietly undertaking “housekeeping tasks” unbeknown to the majority of our members.

“As a resident of Sharnbrook, he was revered by the local community and forged a vital connection between them and the Mill.

“With Theo’s passing, we have lost a link of over 200 years between ourselves and the Hipwell family, for it was Theo’s forebears who owned the Mill from 1817 and built the adjoining Mill House.

R.I.P. Theo from your Mill family.
